PNP and DOH frontliners in a checkpoint at Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya wear the fabricated face shields donated by PSHS-CVC.

In the midst of worldwide crisis brought by a viral disease, Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus lived up to its mission to serve the nation by helping the frontliners be protected from infection.

A team of employee-volunteers fabricated face shields and aerosol boxes at the school’s Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) for almost two weeks now.

Ethyl alcohols were also formulated and donated, together with gloves, masks, tissues, face shields and aerosol boxes, to frontliners of hospitals and checkpoints in the province.

“This is our way of helping the community. As long as our resources warrant, we will continue to produce materials that could help our frontliners”, said Dr. Salvador B. Romo, campus director.

The first wave of donation was delivered last March 27, 2020, which included fabricated face shields, R95 masks, disposable Nitrite gloves, earloop face masks and face shields to Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), Barangay La Torre South, Masoc and Bonfal West check points.

PSHS Executive Director Lilia T. Habacon applauded the efforts of the campuses and cited that “Pisay translates commitment to service into reality in this trying times and the empathy and action they have shown make me proud serving PSHS”.

Donation of additional face shields highlighted the second wave of donation in April 2, 2020 to two more hospitals and other checkpoints around Nueva Vizcaya.

PLT Hospital in Solano and Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Hospital (NVPH) in Bambang received face shields while R2TMC in Bayombong got additional face shields, aerosol boxes, and mattresses.

Frontliners in checkpoints in Bayombong, Solano, Bagabag, Bambang and Aritao were beneficiaries of the fabricated face shields.

“We hope to serve other hospitals and frontliners in other places of the region like Isabela and Cagayan in the next batch of fabricated items” Dr. Romo said.

Inspired by the program of PSHS System’s Pisayuda: Siyensya Para sa Bayan, PSHS-CVC joined other Pisay campuses to immediately respond in helping the frontliners through the use of technology, and available resources they have.

“Pisayuda will be our banner outreach program. It’s a great way to give back to the community. It is a great act to give back to the community carried out together that unites us and gives hope in this time of challenges and difficulties”, Director Habacon said.
