Second Quarter DL's honored, GPTCA, DPA elect new officers

From 46 to 45. Some were out of the list while new names made it.
The 2nd Quarter Card Giving Day highlighted with the awarding of the Directors Listers last January 15, 2016 at the Multi-purpose hall of Academic Building 2 of Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus.
From 20 awardees during the 1st Quarter, the Grade 7 scholars led the awardees anew with 19 DLs.
12 Grade 8, three Grade 9 and 11 Grade 10 scholars round up the awardees for this quarter.
The Card Giving was also highlighted by school updates courtesy of SSD Chief, Mr. Harold V. Gallo and CISD Chief, Dr. Aimee Marie C. Gragasin.
Mrs. Girlmelyn A. Javier, Discipline Officer, also reminded the scholars and their parents about discipline matters.
Parent-teacher consultations, SSIP meeting and reorganization of General Parents Teachers and Community Association and Dormer Parents Association took place after the awarding program.
Dra. Gina Rosimo was elected GPTCA President while Fiscal Benifroi Pascual is the new DPA president.
Judge Marivic Beltran graced the occasion to witness the election of new set of officers and to turn over the reins of the GPTCA.

School papers pocket RSPC award; Gallo is R02's MOSPA

The official student publication in English, The Pisay Explorer, inked its second overall title in three years, and the official student newsletter in Filipino, Ang Siklab, returned on a winning note, while Mr. Harold V. Gallo was hailed as region 2’s best secondary paper adviser, in this year’s Regional Schools Press Conference held last December 13–16, 2015 at Santiago City, Isabela.
The Pisay Explorer, Cagayan Valley’s best school paper in Secondary English Category, received 1st place in Lay–out and Page Design and Science and Technology sections; 2nd place in News and Editorial sections, and 5th place in Feature and Sports sections.
On the other hand, Ang Siklab, PSHS CVC’s official school publication in Filipino, landed in 6th place overall.
The official school publication in Filipino, grabbed 3rd place in News section, 6th place in Scietech section and 5th in Sports, Feature, Editorial and Layout and Page Design categories.
Meanwhile, Gallo, The Pisay Explorer Adviser, proved that third time’s the charm, as he copped the 2015 Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser plum.
“My passion to write, lead and serve will continue to flare up. This is for Pisay–CVC, Nueva Vizcaya and my family,” said Gallo.
According to Gallo, achieving success is a process. “Journalism develops discipline and competitive spirit and leadership in me. It pushed me to strive harder and put time and dedication to be able to succeed”.
Ang Siklab is 6th Best in RSPC, Gallo is RO2's MOSPA, to receive award in Koronadal.
With the win, the official newsletters of qualify to the National Schools Press Conference in Koronadal, South Cotabato on February 22–26, 2016.
The awarding of Gallo, together with the outstanding school paper advisers and student journalists of other region will also happen during the NSPC.
Last year, The Pisay Explorer won 4th Place in Feature Section and 5th Place in News Section.

Naka–WiFi ka na ba?

“Ano ‘pong password ng WiFi ‘nyo?” Ito ang karaniwang tanong sa mga mangagawa ng mga restawran, malls, o kahit sa kapit-bahay lang. Inilalagay ang WiFi sa mga pasyalan upang makaakit ng mas maraming mamimili dahil sa panahon ngayon ay sa social media na gaya ng Facebook, Twitter at Instagram ang tutok ng mga tao lalo na sa mga kabataan.
Bilang teenadyer ng lipunan, hindi ko maikukubli na like na like ko rin ang pag–bisita sa birtwal na mundo ng internet. Bukod sa makulay, nakatatawa at maimpormasyon ang mga websites sa internet ay nakatutulong din ito para mapagtibay ang relasyon ng kahit sino sa kani–kanilang mga kaibigan.
Datapwat tulad ng lahat ng bagay, may mga peligro ring dala ang internet. Nang dahil dito ay dumarami ang nagiging biktima ng hacking at nabubuksan ang mga personal na bagay–bagay sa internet. Ayon sa pahayagang Inquirer, 1.5 milyong katao sa Pilipinas ang na-hahack araw–araw. Dahil din sa internet ay mas mabilis na napapalaganap ang mga kalakarang ilegal tulad ng bogus–buying sa online shops, pang–aangkin ng mga katha ng iba o plagiarism at mga online dating sites na maaaring maging kasangkapan sa paggawa ng krimen.
Bakit nga ba nahihilig ang kabataan sa paggamit ng internet? Sinasabi sa pagsasaliksik ni Kraut noong 1998, ‘di umano’y ang paggamit ng internet ay mas nakakapagtaas ng bahagdan ng pagkakaroon ng depresyon, stress at pagkamalungkutin. Tinatawag itong “Internet Paradox” dahil taliwas ang katotohanan sa tunay na nangyayari.
Mahal na mahal ng kabataan ang internet dahil dito, nakakagawa sila ng mundong inihahabi ayon sa kanilang kagustuhan. Sa internet maaaring makagawa sila ng ibang persona na mas–in, mas–cool at mas–havey sa mata ng publiko. Animo’y mascara ang internet para itago ang mukhang malayo sa kabihasnan.
Ang akin lang naman, ilugar ang paggamit sa internet. Ilagay ang paa sa lupa upang huwag mailipad ng umiihip na hangin ng buhay social media. Hindi rin palusot ang kawalan ng WiFi sa hindi mo nagawang proyekto; dahil bago pa man naimbento ang internet ay namuhay ang mga tao sa tulong ng mga libro at natural na kagustuhang matuto. Hindi dapat gamitin ang internet para bumati ng “HBD” o “Happy Birthday” na may emoticon sa huli para sa isang kaibigan. Hindi drive–thru ang internet para makakuha ng larawan ng iyong iniibig at iedit ito gamit ang Photoshop.
Kaya ikaw, oo ikaw! Naka-WiFi ka na ba? Dahil kung naka–WiFi ka na, abot mo na ang kalawakan sa isang pindot mo lamang. Pero mag–ingat–ingat lang at baka ma–auto-correct ka diyan.

Pisay–CVC penpushers shine, make historic run in RSPC 2015

Members of Pisay–CVC Journalism team flaunt their trophies during the awarding of the search of the Best School Publication during the 2015 RSPC, February 13–16, 2015.
Reaping top awards in team, individual and newspaper categories, Philippine Science High School journalism team made waves at Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held last December 13–16, 2015 at Santiago City, Isabela, where 11 Pisay CVC scribes qualified to the nationals.
Collaborative Publishing English team, composed of Cyril Francis Wakit, Adrian Bayle, Clark Denmark Recile, Tom Ivan Binbinon, Alfrancis Gacutan, Alliyah Maxyne Tello and Dianne Joyce Matic, won 1st place, earning them a ticket to the National Schools Press Conference.
“It’s such a rare opportunity, being given the chance to participate in the NSPC, and I’m very excited. This year, I participated in my first DSPC, and I was surrounded by great and talented people. I’m proud that a lot of them are participating in the NSPC as well,” Recile said.
On the individual categories, Ma. Shaira Lei Daludado (News Writing – English), Percival Carpio III (Sports Writing-English), and John Lian Mar Catli (Sports Writing – Filipino) landed in 2nd place.
Additionally, sophomore Fredelito Liquigan Jr. bagged 3rd place in Copy Reading and Headline Writing - Filipino.
“Initially, we had a lot of misunderstandings. But I guess what changed this year was that we had a lot of training. This had taught us that we always had each other’s backs and that we were a family in a sense. The contest this year was very different because we didn’t argue anymore. Thus, we had finished on time and won,” Tello said.
“To qualify in the NSPC is not a fluke. I’m glad that all the time we toil for practices paid off,” said coach Harold Gallo.
Jubilee Balonkita and Maria Stella Guia Miguel garnered 6th place and 7th place, respectively, in the Science and Health Writing.
In the search for the Best School Publication, The Pisay Explorer clinched the overall title while Ang Siklab placed 6th overall.
Finally, Gallo, copped the Most Outstanding Secondary School Paper Adviser plum.
National Schools Press Conference is to be held at Koronadal City, South Cotabato on February 22–26, 2016.

Pisay CVC reclaims Valleygsahan overall title

Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus emerged as this year’s champion in the recently held Valleygsahan last December 19 and 20, 2015 at Cauayan City, Isabela.
The victories assured ensured 12 scholars for the Patalasanlahi 2016, the national stage of the competition, pitting them against other winners from other regions.
With a whooping score of 93 points, Pisay CVC Team B – composed of Cedric John Marc Catacutan, Earvin Michael Bibay and Mark Ely Namoro cruised past their counterparts region and reaped 1st place in the quiz bee competition.
Team A, composed of Rench Consumido, Beaver Sean Caraan and Christlen Olivares, landed second place with a 72-point finish.
“We allotted time for such event to somehow reciprocate the funds and efforts exerted by the school, or the nation's contributions to us, and of course in for Pisay community to be proud of us,” Caraan proudly acclaimed.
According to Consumido, it was a challenge to prove that hardwork pays off.
“Winning felt great and wonderful. I didn't expect the school to take the title as based on the previous years. Honestly, I really didn't expect our team to top the eliminations and finally clinch the second place in the quiz bee,” Olivares said.
Pisay’s debate team, comprised of Jubilee Balonkita, Reynaldo Jaime Gonzalez, Hannah Keren Duque, garnered 1st place and Duque clinched the Best Debater plum.
In Essay Writing tilt, Marie Guia Stella Miguel (English) and Precious Jane Guerrero (Filipino) placed third and second, respectively, in Essay Writing.
To complete the list of Patalasanlahi qualifiers, Betina Nicole Pascual managed to grab 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking – Filipino.
Elaine Adami participated in poster making contest while Alfrancis Gacutan competed for Extemporaneous Speaking – English.
"It was worth it to compete even though it was our Christmas break. I experienced a breath–taking crowd worth having a heart attack with. It was a shiny moment for all of us to go up in the stage and represent the province. I learned new tremendous things and it was overwhelming," Gacutan admitted.
University of the Philippines – Diliman will host the Patalasanlahi 2016.
