Members of Pisay–CVC Journalism team flaunt their trophies during the awarding of the search of the Best School Publication during the 2015 RSPC, February 13–16, 2015.

Reaping top awards in team, individual and newspaper categories, Philippine Science High School journalism team made waves at Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) held last December 13–16, 2015 at Santiago City, Isabela, where 11 Pisay CVC scribes qualified to the nationals.

Collaborative Publishing English team, composed of Cyril Francis Wakit, Adrian Bayle, Clark Denmark Recile, Tom Ivan Binbinon, Alfrancis Gacutan, Alliyah Maxyne Tello and Dianne Joyce Matic, won 1^st place, earning them a ticket to the National Schools Press Conference.

“It’s such a rare opportunity, being given the chance to participate in the NSPC, and I’m very excited. This year, I participated in my first DSPC, and I was surrounded by great and talented people. I’m proud that a lot of them are participating in the NSPC as well,” Recile said.

On the individual categories, Ma. Shaira Lei Daludado (News Writing – English), Percival Carpio III (Sports Writing-English), and John Lian Mar Catli (Sports Writing – Filipino) landed in 2^nd place.

Additionally, sophomore Fredelito Liquigan Jr. bagged 3^rd place in Copy Reading and Headline Writing - Filipino.

“Initially, we had a lot of misunderstandings. But I guess what changed this year was that we had a lot of training. This had taught us that we always had each other’s backs and that we were a family in a sense. The contest this year was very different because we didn’t argue anymore. Thus, we had finished on time and won,” Tello said.

“To qualify in the NSPC is not a fluke. I’m glad that all the time we toil for practices paid off,” said coach Harold Gallo.

Jubilee Balonkita and Maria Stella Guia Miguel garnered 6^th place and 7^th place, respectively, in the Science and Health Writing.

In the search for the Best School Publication, The Pisay Explorer clinched the overall title while Ang Siklab placed 6^th overall.

Finally, Gallo, copped the Most Outstanding Secondary School Paper Adviser plum.

National Schools Press Conference is to be held at Koronadal City, South Cotabato on February 22–26, 2016.

In a rare chance of showing their athletic prowess, seven (7) Philippine Science High School campuses together with the Office of the Executive Director locked horns in a sportsfest, where the alliance of Cagayan Valley–Cordillera Administrative Region–Ilocos Region campuses swept all the sporting events and emerged as the overall champion, last December 14–17, at Subic, Zambales.

Proclaiming themselves as the Solid North trifecta, they lorded over and proclaimed overall champion against the alliances of White team, comprised of CLC and BRC and Yellow team, composed of Main Campus, Calabarzon Campus and OED.

White Team bagged second place and Yellow Team landed third, respectively.

“This is a rare opportunity for the Luzon campuses to gather together and go outside of their work parameters,” CLC Campus Director Lilia Habacon said in her opening remarks during the opening program held at the Seorabeol Leisure Hotel and Resort, as quoted in www.pshs.edu.ph.

The sportsfest was conducted as part of the joint Gender Sensitivity Training where Mr. Peter Fermin Dajime, PSHS Main Campus PE instructor and trainer, shared his ideas on epidemiology and stressed the importance of physical activity in order to decrease the risk of age-related and lifestyle diseases such as stroke, diabetes, heart disease, obesity.

An aggregate of 381 faculty and non-faculty personnel headed by their respective campus directors participated in the activity.

Furthermore, CVC claimed the Talent Contest during the fellowship night as they showcased their gender-sensitive themed sing–and–dance–presentation.

“We anticipated tough games against our fellows and we are glad we won it all and that is because we have a good chemistry with our partner campuses,” said hoops Point–Forward Jesse Brian Basilio, PSHS–CVC Guidance Counselor.

Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus emerged as this year’s champion in the recently held Valleygsahan last December 19 and 20, 2015 at Cauayan City, Isabela.

The victories assured ensured 12 scholars for the Patalasanlahi 2016, the national stage of the competition, pitting them against other winners from other regions.

With a whooping score of 93 points, Pisay CVC Team B – composed of Cedric John Marc Catacutan, Earvin Michael Bibay and Mark Ely Namoro cruised past their counterparts region and reaped 1st place in the quiz bee competition.

Team A, composed of Rench Consumido, Beaver Sean Caraan and Christlen Olivares, landed second place with a 72-point finish.

“We allotted time for such event to somehow reciprocate the funds and efforts exerted by the school, or the nation's contributions to us, and of course in for Pisay community to be proud of us,” Caraan proudly acclaimed.

According to Consumido, it was a challenge to prove that hardwork pays off.

“Winning felt great and wonderful. I didn't expect the school to take the title as based on the previous years. Honestly, I really didn't expect our team to top the eliminations and finally clinch the second place in the quiz bee,” Olivares said.

Pisay’s debate team, comprised of Jubilee Balonkita, Reynaldo Jaime Gonzalez, Hannah Keren Duque, garnered 1st place and Duque clinched the Best Debater plum.

In Essay Writing tilt, Marie Guia Stella Miguel (English) and Precious Jane Guerrero (Filipino) placed third and second, respectively, in Essay Writing.

To complete the list of Patalasanlahi qualifiers, Betina Nicole Pascual managed to grab 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking – Filipino.

Elaine Adami participated in poster making contest while Alfrancis Gacutan competed for Extemporaneous Speaking – English.

"It was worth it to compete even though it was our Christmas break. I experienced a breath–taking crowd worth having a heart attack with. It was a shiny moment for all of us to go up in the stage and represent the province. I learned new tremendous things and it was overwhelming," Gacutan admitted.

University of the Philippines – Diliman will host the Patalasanlahi 2016.
