For the second year in a row, Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus emerged as the champion in the Provincial Tourism Quiz Bee held at FTM Food Fiesta, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya on September 9, 2016.

Christlen Carlo L. Olivares of Grade 10-Muon bested 51 other contenders from the different schools in the province. As the provincial winner, he will be representing the province of Nueva Vizcaya in the Regional Quiz Bee in Ilagan City on September 27, 2016.

This year, the competition was composed of a written elimination and a final round. In the written eliminations, all the 52 contestants answered a 20-item test where students who got a score of 15 or higher qualified for the final round. Christlen, together with five other students, moved on and battled in the final stage.

In the final round composed of fifteen items, Christlen managed an early lead, making three points ahead of his competitors, with two items where only he was able to answer correctly. Towards the end of the final round, the other contenders were catching up, but his closest rival was short of one point to end up with a tie with him.

"I am so happy that I was able to defend my title as the provincial champion even though I only have a short amount of time to prepare," declares Christlen who just competed with a team and won in the PSYSC Science Olympiad six days before his tourism competition. "I'll try my best to get the regional title this year," he adds as he landed a point behind first place in last year's Regional Tourism Quiz Bee held in Maddela, Quirino.

"I am very proud of Christlen's second victory in this contest, but what brings me more pride is the fact that he exemplifies the ideal Pisayer, one who does not only excel in science and math but also in the humanities," quips Ms. Christine V. Ordinario, Christlen's coach.

Christlen received a certificate, a medal and Php3, 500.00. The contestants from Diadi National High School and Nueva Vizcaya State University-Bayombong Campus placed second and third place, respectively.

The Tourism Quiz Bee is an annual activity spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism Office in celebration of September as National Tourism Month. #
