Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus (PSHS–CVC) celebrated its 25th Founding Anniversary through a series of programs and activities held on August 23–27, 2021.
With the theme “To 25 and More: Excellence at our Core, Service to the Fore,” the silver anniversary of PSHS–CVC is an embodiment of the school’s 25–year story of challenges and successes recognizing all the people who became instrumental to bring PSHS–CVC to where it is now.
The week–long celebration began with a Eucharistic celebration in thanksgiving for all the blessings that the school has received for the past 25 years.
The virtual Opening Program followed, graced by greetings from Gov. Carlos Padilla, the author of the legislation that established PSHS–CVC, and Hon. Ralph Lantion, the municipal mayor of Bayombong.
Messages from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) continued – Sec. Fortunato T. de la Peña, Usec Renato U. Solidum, and PSHS System Executive Director Lilia T. Habacon – congratulating PSHS–CVC for its feats and triumphs over the years.
Sec. de la Peña, who served as officer–in–charge of PSHS–CVC for some time, said, “I witnessed how it weathered the storms and braved the challenges as a premiere science high school in Cagayan Valley.”
He also acknowledged the collective effort of the institution’s leaders, employees, students, parents, and other stakeholders for accomplishing this great feat of silver founding anniversary.
Dr. Solidum expressed his appreciation to the men and women of PSHS–CVC who labored hard in molding the youth by providing quality science education. “Like silver, you are strong enough to undergo changes without losing your core,” Dr. Solidum addressed the PSHS–CVC family for being strong and flexible amidst the health crisis.
PSHS System Executive Director Habacon emphasized the characteristics of silver to remain aflame in the PSHS–CVC core: strength, clarity, and focus, which are translated into strength of character, mental fortitude, and collaboration. She inspired the CVC community to nurture the qualities of silver in the campus and to keep on pursuing to achieve the school’s noble purpose.
Another highlight of the Opening Program was the Milestones Video about the history and journey of PSHS–CVC in its 25 years of existence captured in a 20–minute audio–visual narrative.
The afternoon of Day 1 was intended for the virtual Recognition Day for School Year 2020–2021, acknowledging the academic achievements and performance in competitions of the students for the past year.
The second day was devoted for students and the community. The morning was spent for student competitions such as quiz bee, essay writing, and poster making, all done virtually, while the afternoon was spent for outreach program with the senior citizens, PWDs, and Grade 5 pupils of Bayombong as beneficiaries.
Day three was slated for Family Day, spearheaded by the Parents Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) where fun–filled activities were a hit for students, parents, and employees alike.
The alumni took their slot in the afternoon until late evening for their activity dubbed as “Panagsubli." The first part was a Career Talk where PSHS–CVC alumni shared their professional experiences to the students as guide in choosing their careers in the future.
In the evening, the Alumnight was held, where alumni from different batches gathered virtually to discuss plans of the PSHS–CVC alumni association while they reminisce high school memories.
Day Four was a break for the employees, with the entire day scheduled for sportsfest in the morning and employee hours in the afternoon.
The faculty and staff engaged in friendly games such as badminton, table tennis, skills tests in basketball, outdoor volleyball, parlor games, and educational games. Cookfest and singing competition were also part of the morning activities.
During the Employee Hours in the afternoon, the officers of the PSHS–CVC Employees Association sponsored a virtual activity where the employees battled out through their wit and creativity.
The Closing Program, streamed live via Facebook, concluded the week–long founding anniversary commemoration, which was highlighted by giving recognition to people who have become instrumental to the school’s success over the years.In celebration of the campus’ 25th founding anniversary, 25 distinguished alumni were accorded recognition for their exemplary contributions in their respective careers and professions.
Also given recognition were Gov. Carlos M. Padilla, the author of the law that established the Nueva Vizcaya Science High School, which eventually became PSHS–CVC; the former campus directors, Dr. Rodolfo E. De Guzman, Dr. Efren B. Mateo, and Dr. Salvador B. Romo.
Service Award was also awarded to Dr. Gina T. Rosimo, the PTCA president from 2015 to present, and Atty. Benifroi Pascual, president of the Dormers’ Parents Association from 2015 to present, as well.
Loyalty Award was accorded to Ms. Jennevie S. Dimoloy, Ms. Mylyn R. Gallo, Ms. Maureen Joy S. Sermonia, and Ms. Ma. Cristina Valeros for having reached 10 years of service to PSHS–CVC, while Ms. Christine V. Ordinario was also a loyalty awardee for her 15 years in the service.
The employees who have served for 20 years were given Milestone Award. This year, the awardees are Dr. Maricel D. Bata, Mr. Sadiri S. Corpuz, Ms. Rosalinda O. Luwang, and Ms. Genalyn Alice R. Viloria.
The students who won in the quiz bee, essay writing and poster making contests were also announced in the closing program.#
